Expo proved to be a huge success. Now it’s your chance to relive some of the highlights of that magical day. Here are the various different performances from that day.

Students Show Off Talents at Camp Expo

All that hard work paid off as students demonstrated what they had learned the past two weeks and performed it at the camp’s Expo. Students acted, sang, danced and even composed songs and played musical instruments.
The two-hour long performance was held at the ampitheatre and as the rain held off, the students really shined. Some of the highlights were the “Three Litte Pigs” play, the Cup Song and a musical selection using the poetry that was created by the students in class.The annual expo was performed in front of the students parents.
The students even learned about the Irish immigrant perspective and danced to an Irish folk song.
Students wrote their own poetry and composed it to music. They performed it on stage.
Students perform the cup song and it was certainly one of the highlights of the Expo.
Getting a History Lesson on Polish Day
American teachers danced with the Polish teachers as part of Polish Day commemorations.

On the 1st of August, we had Polish day. Everyone was very excited about the Kościuszko play but sad that it was the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. At 5 p.m everyone went out of their rooms and gathered together for a one minute of silence to remember those who fought for the freedom of our capital.
The play was certainly a highlight of the commemorations.
As for the show, there were 4 parts of the evening . The 1st part was dancing the Polonaise. All Polish and American staff participated in the dance, lead by Jolanta Maurin. The 2nd part was the Kościuszko play, which was absolutely terrific. The third part was a animated tribute to the history of Poland and the final piece was a musical and video tribute to the Warsaw Uprising.
Students Get to Experience A Country Fair

On Friday there was an American country fair. Everyone had fun. There were 8 stations. On every station everybody got tickets and at the end 10 people got prizes. One of the best prizes was offered to three students who could throw a pie in the face of three American teachers. Everyone had their faces painted and wore wigs. Everybody had so much fun that at the end they didn’t want to go back to the dorm.
Ignacy Walas said the fair was great.
“It was cool because you could be at any station you would like, ” he said.
Nikodem Turkiewicz said it was also great but came away a little disappointed because he didn’t win any prizes.
“I was on every station and I had a lot of tickets and I didn’t win any prize. What a shame,” he said.
Bartosz Włodarczyk said: ” It was so cool because my friend won a prize.”
Kinga Gaca said she had a lot of fun but was hoping to win something. “It was a shame when I didn’t win anything but everyone who won. Congratulations.”
Weronika Kozłowska said “It was Ok, but I didn’t win anthing. Everyone didn’t win no matter how much tickets he got.”
Eliza Łabędzka thought it was interestin and fun. ” I didn’t win anything but it’s Ok.”
Translation:
W Piątek był karnawał. Wszyscy się dobrze bawili. Było 8 stacji. Na każdej stacji wszyscy co brali udział dostawali bilety i 10 wylosowanych osób dostało nagrody. Trzy osoby, które stanęły na podium mogli rzucić w danego Amerykana. Wszyscy byli pomalowani i nosili perułki. Wszyscy dobrze się bawili i pod koniec nie chcieli iś do pokoi tak jak było z moją ostanią historią.
Również robiłam wywiady z różnymi ludźmi. Oto są ich wypowiedzi:
Ignacy Walas: Było bardzo fajnie bo mogliśmy by na każdej stacji. Zebrałem dużo bileów ale nie wygrałem żadnej nagody.
Nikodem Turkiewicz: Przeszłem każdą stacje i zdobyłem dużo biletów ale nic nie wygrałem

Kinga Gaca: Było fajnie, śmiesznie. Niestety nic nie wygrałam ale wszystkim co wygrali gratuluje.
Weronika Kozłowska; Było bardzo fajnie, nic nie wygrałam. Nie każdemu się udało nie ważne ile biletów wrzucił.
Eliza Łabędzka: Było bardzo ciekawie i śmiesznie. Mimo tego że nic nie wygrałam to nic.
American Teachers Show Off Their Creativity in Class

In various different classes American teachers and teaching assistants are working hard getting the Polish students to learn English. There have been various different and wonderful activities in class, ranging from dance, poetry, music and art work. The Americans came from all over the United States to spend two weeks at Załęcze Wielke to teach the children.
W różnych klasach Amerykańscy nauczyciele i asystenci pracują ciężko aby Polskie dzieci uczyły się Angielskiego. Było dużo ciężkiej i kreatywnej pracy od lekcji tańca poprzez Angielski, muzykę i plastykę. Amerykanie przyjechali z różnych stanów z Ameryki aby spędzić dwa tygodnie w Załęczu Wielkim żeby uczyć dzieci z całej Polski.

In Scott Menscher and Jayne Carlman’s class the students are studying poetry.
DJ Matty Ice, a non-commissioned officer in the US Air Force, is drilling the students on military cadence.
In Donna Kwiatkowski -Belt and Robin Cogan’s class the students are quite active learning the parts of the body in English.
Square dancing is loads of fun in Sandy Ross and Daniela Kapusta’s class.
In Kimberly Corona and Jesse Ramos’s class they are making beats with cups and musical instruments.
Polish teachers Marzena and Wojtek Zalewski proudly show off their Polish heritage.
Mary Lastowka and Matt Connelly have been teaching about Pilgrams on the Mayflower and having Christopher Columbus boat races.
In Richard Romaniuk and Sarah Basset’s class, the students had so much fun learning English.
Halloween in July, the Perfect Time to Trick or Treat

On a hot July 31st day, we celebrated Halloween. We all dressed up in spooky clothes. First we went to the haunted house, prepared by the American teachers, and walked through it.
“It was really scary!” said very many people. Max Bzik, who dressed up as Dracula, said that his favorite part of Halloween is trick-or-treating. Ignacy Walas said he most liked the haunted house and the candy with a big smile.
There were plenty of zombies around today!

Roxana Wojniak, who dressed as a Harley Queen, said she loved the Haunted House. “It was crazy,” she said.

Also on Halloween we went trick-or-treating. We knocked on the doors of the Grodzki building and said trick-or-treat to the people who opened the door. We got candy and ate lots of it but not too much! Then we danced to the song ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson, a tradition we have. The dance was led by American teacher Sandy Ross. People got medals for the best costumes and also for the best dance moves.
In the evening, we had bingo with special prizes for the people who got a ‘BINGO’ in the game. Everyone had lots of fun and came back to their rooms saying how good Halloween was.
Students are bobbing for apples on an especially hot day.

Food Glorious Food

When it comes to the camp food, there are many people that love it but others say that it is ok. The chefs work hard making over 300 dishes a day and making it delicious. We interviewed some students and the chefs themselves about what they think about the level of the food.
First we interviewed Dawid Pawlak about his side of the food. “I would give the food a solid 9+,” he said with a smile on his face. “I love the food, the chefs make it delicious here,” he also said.

This is what Weronika Kozłowska thinks. “The food is great here and the chefs are working so hard for the food they give us,” she said. “I would rate the food here a solid 9!” she also says.
Then we asked all the chefs here at Załęcze some questions about the food. “We want the students to enjoy the food here” they said. They also said that every product is fresh, and healthy. At the end we asked them if it is easy to work here, and they said that it is hard to work when there are very many people waiting for food.
Karaoke Night, Big Hit!!!

Yesterday there was karaoke night. Everyone had fun and after the party everyone was happy. The kids were singing Polish hits. Even the Polish staff sang too!!!
We heard hits like:

- “Jesteś szalona “ ( You’re crazy) by Boys
- “ Zielony ogórek” ( green cucumber) by Fasolki

The karaoke lasted 2 hours. Everybody wanted it to last longer. One of the highlights was watching Sandy Ross, from the American Staff, sing too.
Today we interviewed campers about yesterday’s karaoke night. Michał Przybył said: “It was ok but I would like to dance to the music.” Jessica Werner also wished that it could have been a little longer.
Polish staff member Blanka Przybył said: “It was perfect, I really liked how much kids sung.” Maria Krawczyk said she also liked it “but I’m sad that a little only a few children sang.”
Lena Gasztych said she liked it but wished the place was bigger. While Polish staff Grażyna Truszkowska said: ” I had a good time at Karaoke night and I would like to repeat it.”
Q & A: With the Students About Their Time in Załęcze

Today we interviewed campers about how they are feeling here at Załęcze Wielkie. Here are some of the people we interviewed and what they replied:
Philippe: “What do you like about Załęcze?’’
Krzysztof Kułaga: “In Załęcze I like the disco, kickball and baseball.’’
Philippe: “Do you like the food here?’’
Krzysztof: “Yes, I like the food and I also like the American staff!” he says.
Then we interviewed Michał Przybył:
Ernest: “What is your favorite sport here at camp?”
Michał: “My favorite game is soccer.”
Ernest: “Have you made new friends here?”
Michał: “Yes I have.” he says.
Finally we interviewed a girl named Hania Nyk:
Us two: “What is the best thing you have done so far here?”
Hania: “I think that it was the lessons with the American staff.”
Us two: “Do you like it here?”
Hania: “Yes I do.”
Us two: “Did you like the egg hunt and the S’mores?”
Hania: “I loved that too!”
It seems that the students are having a great time and are looking forward to everyday.

Students are Having a Fun Time at Camp

On Tuesday we saw so many students playing games. Some of the games the students enjoyed were: kickball, volleyball, the name game, running (military cadence) and yoga. The teachers ran the games.
Marysia Krawczyk said she’s having a great time playing the sports . “The children are nice,” she said.
Vanessa Zarzecka said she’s having fun at the camp and a lot of it has to do with the American teachers. “The teachers are nice and open minded.’’
Adam Szyszka said he’s happy being here . “We can make new friends.’’
Julia Stępień said she is excited to learn English and Mikołaj Jasiński said the classes have a good atmosphere .
